Women's Health

Particular Women's Issues:

Going through life, there are particular challenges women may meet; PMS, period pains, female infertility, menopause and much more.

In my understanding, many 'typical' women's issues can be caused by trauma to an area of the brain, which houses the most important endocrine gland, which produces hormones important to the balance of the system - the pituitary gland*. (Trauma is a physical or emotional impact that the body is unable to shift by itself and that therefore remains held within the body and can be caused before or during birth, through accidents or overwhelming emotional issues.)

In my practice I have seen marked improvement of symptoms for PMS, period pains and  the side effects of the menopause, when addressing the area which holds the pituitary gland.

Infertility and/or miscarriage cause real heartache, and IVF and other treatments can be very stressful. I am working in my practice with women with these issues, supporting them through the process.

The change from having been a fertile woman to oncoming menopause can be deeply upsetting. Problems range from migraines, hot flushes and night sweats to insomnia, migraines, mood swings and urinary problems to being depressed and sad about the loss of fertility. That we will lose our fertility at some point may be unavoidable, but how well we are with the loss can be helped.

Craniosacral therapy sessions create a calm and gentle space in which to process those changes and rebalance the systems of the body.

Pregnancy

There is so much that has changed for women over the modern era, some for the better, some not. There are big life-changing questions involved in deciding to have a child and women are deeply engaged in every respect - their bodies, their minds, their livelihood, their dreams and aspirations.

I offer Craniosacral Therapy to support women exploring their relationship to pregnancy and to having a baby, preparing physically and mentally for pregnancy and to accompany you throughout your pregnancy.

Our own birth (and early childhood) history influences how we react to being pregnant and even how the birth of our baby proceeds - this can be addressed and resolved in a gentle and organic manner.

This gentle and safe touch-therapy can assist with the adjustments to the natural physical and hormonal changes and assist in easing discomfort and pain in pregnancy.

I aim to support women who want to conceive, whether naturally or through IVF.  While this can be entirely joyful, it can also be a stressful, painful process, and craniosacral therapy's place can be to integrate the experiences, support the body and mind and to prepare the body to conceive.

*The pituitary gland is of major importance to healthy function in the body, including fertility and breast milk production.

Hormones secreted from the pituitary gland help control the following body processes: • Growth • Blood pressure • Some aspects of pregnancy and childbirth including stimulation of uterine contractions during childbirth • Breast milk production • Sex organ functions in both men and women • Thyroid gland function • The conversion of food into energy (metabolism) • Water and osmolarity regulation in the body • Water balance via the control of reabsorption of water by the kidneys • Temperature regulation (from Wikipedia)
